KRCL’s second workshop for auto, taxi drivers

Udupi, Feb 9 2015 : Konkan Railway Corporation Limited (KRCL) with assistance from department of tourism arranged a one-day workshop on tourism at Udupi railway station for taxi and auto rickshaw drivers on Feb.7.  In all, 144 taxi/auto rickshaw drivers in and around Udupi participated in the workshop.

krcl Mr Chetan, an official of tourism department dwelt on tourism and tourist places of interest in and around Udupi. Veena T Shetty, manager, HR Department, MRPL provided valuable inputs in speaking skills, appearance.

Vishwanatha Naik, motor vehicle inspector, RTA, Udupi dwelt on traffic rules and road safety. Ravindranath Shanbhog, professor, TA Pai Management Institute, Manipal offered a perspective on tourism etiquette. Devi Prabha Alva, head of department of commerce, St Agnes College, Mangaluru delivered lecture on  -Be good ambassadors to Udupi tourism.

The participants appreciated the workshop. They interacted with the resource persons and discussed various issues they face on a daily basis and were keen to know more about tourism. They were happy that through this workshop they got information on tourist places of Udupi and surrounding area and facilities available. This will help them to act as tourist guides to tourists who come from various parts of the country and overseas by trains.

This is the second such programme organized by KRCL in Karnataka. Similar programs have already been arranged at Kankavali, Madgaon, Mapusa and Surathkal railway stations on KR route. Konkan Railway will also be organizing similar workshop at major stations in co-ordination with tourism department. Such efforts it is hoped will bring the target groups into the main stream of tourist development.
