KPL: Mangalore hold off Verma to win thriller by 6 runs

Hubli, Sep 9, 2014: Defending champions Mangalore United overcame Amit Verma’s late assault in the run-chase to prevail by 6 runs in a thriller against Mysore Warriors in the Karbonn Smart Karnataka Premier League (KPL) in Hubli today.

Chasing 153, Mysore were reeling at 34/4 in 8.5 overs. At this stage, Verma (73 not out) and BN Bharath (49) joined hands to launch Mysore’s fightback. They brought the equation down to 19 off the final over but Man-of-the-match SL Akshay held his nerve in the 20th over to deliver a narrow win for Mangalore.

With this win, Mangalore climbed to the top of the table with 10 points. They have finished their matches in the league phase and will wait to know semi-final opponents. Mysore too have ended their league campaign. They have 8 points and they are also in the last-four.

Earlier, Ganesh Satish topscored for Mangalore with 45 as they posted 152/4 in 20 overs. Pawan Deshpande was the next best with 38.
