Mangaluru, July 01, 2019: The Dakshina Kannada District Journalists’ Conference organised by the DK District Working Journalists’ Union was inaugurated at the Kudmul Rangarao Town Hall here on July 1, Monday by Nagaland Governor P B Acharya.
In his inaugural address Acharya highlighted the role of the journalists in strengthening the democracy and in nation building.
The Nagaland Governor also appreciated the significant contribution of people of undivided Dakshina Kannada district towards the social and educational sector.
Veteran journalist Eshwar Daithota presided over the function.
Speaking as a chief guest, DK District in-charge Minister U T Khader said the district administration has been asked to identify land at the district and taluk level to provide sites to members of the Working Journalists’ Union.
He said positive issues should be duly highlighted in the media and added that journalists have the responsibility of keeping the minds and hearts of the society clean.
Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath released the souvenir "Samachara" on the occasion, while Mangaluru North MLA Dr Bharath Shetty inaugurated Hasiru Usiru programme by distributing saplings.
Shivananda Tagadur, President of State Working Journalists Association, was also present as a chief guest,.
District Working Journalists’ Union President Srinivas Nayak Indaje in his introductory remarks said the conference was organised for the very first time, and added that journalists should act as a link between the society and government.
A computer was donated to Kutlur Government School where the Journalists’ Union held a Village Stay recently. The computer was sponsored by MSEZ. Ramachandra Bhandarkar, PRO of MSEZ was also present.
Kavitha P B Acharya, SP B M Laxmiprasad, Patrika Bhavan Trust President Anand Shetty, Press Club President Annu Mangaluru, Conference Convenor Jagannath Shetty Bala and others were present.
Senior journalist Manohar Prasad compered the programme.
