Jokatte youth assaulted by Hindu activists in Shringeri

Mangalore, April 20, 2014:   It has been learnt that a group of Bhajrangdal activists assaulted  a few persons who had left tor Shringeri  from Mangalore to bring the body of Kabeer, a cattle transporter who was killed in a firing by ANF on April 19, Saturday.

It is said the Bhajrangdal activists attacked the men  with stones, machetes and wooden clubs right in the presence of the police resulting in a tense situation.  One of the injured Salam(25)  of Jokatte is admitted  to a private hospital in the city.

According to Salaam, there were at least 25 to 30 people in the group of attackers. It is learnt Mohammad Ismail alias Monu, the brother of the deceased Kabir too was injured in the assault. He said they all received first aid at the Shringeri  hospital.

Meanwhile, security has been stepped up in Krishnapura after people observed a voluntary bundh  in protest against the gunning down of a resident of Jokatte Kabeer in Shringeri by the ANF personnel after mistaking him and other cattle transporters in a Mahindra pick-up vehicle for Naxalites.
