Jewels worth Rs 4.15 lakh seized, thief held

Mangaluru, Oct 11, 2018: The CCB sleuths arrested an inter-district thief in connection with series of chain theft cases reported in different police stations of Mangaluru city and Udupi district.

According to DCP Crime Uma Prashanth, the arrested is Shakib alias Subbu (25), a resident of second block Katipalla.

Acting on a tip-off that the accused was in Vamanjoor, the police chased the car which he was driving and arrested him.

The police seized 140 gm-weighing five gold chains, one karimani chain, two pendants from the arrested. The value of the seized ornaments is Rs 4.15 lakh. In addition, the police have recovered a car and two mobilephones from the arrested. The value of the total seized property is Rs 6.60 lakh.

He, along with his accomplice, were involved in a series of chain snatching incidents in Padubidri, Karkala, Shirva, and Karkala Rural police stations.

The police are on look for his accomplices. Shakib was also wanted, in an attempt to murder and six theft cases in Surathkal, dacoity case in Bajpe and a bike theft case in Mangaluru North police station jurisdiction.
