Jayanth Kaikini chosen for Karanth Huttura award

Udupi, Sep 11, 2014: Jayanth Kaikini, noted writer and lyricist, has been chosen for the annual Dr. Kota Shivaram Karanth Huttura Prashasti – 2014 (Dr. Kota Shivaram Karanth Birthplace Award).


jayanth Kaikini The award instituted by the Kotathattu Gram Panchayat in Udupi district, in memory of the Jnanpith Award Winner late Dr. Kota Shivaram Karanth, is being given annually for the last 10 years since 2005.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, Anand C. Kundar, executive president of the Karanth Birthplace Award Foundation, said Mr. Kaikini had been chosen for this award in recognition of his contribution to the fields of Kannada literature and lyrics of Kannada films. The award would be presented at the Giliyaru Shambhavi School in Kota on October 10, to coincide with the birth anniversary of Karanth.

The earlier recipients of the Dr. Shivarama Karanth Huttura Prashasti are Union Petroleum Minister M. Veerappa Moily (2005), former Karnataka Lokayukta N. Venkatachala (2006), educationist K.R. Hande (2007), journalist and writer Ravi Belegere (2008), senior Yakshagana artiste Chittani Ramachandra Hegde (2009), filmmaker Girish Kasaravalli (2010), environmentalist Salumarada Thimakka (2011), theatre personality B. Jayashree (2012) and educationist Mohan Alva (2013).
