Mangalore, May 17, 2013: Newly elected MLA of Mangalore South Constituency JR Lobo has said that the city of Mangalore will not face water scarcity this summer as there is sufficient water in the Tumbay vented dam which supplies water to the city.
The MLA who visited the Tumbay Dam area on May 17, Friday to inspect the works of the second vented dam, said though some places in the city faced water shortage that was not due to any water shortage but due to some technical problems in the water pumping unit. The problem has been solved now and there would be no disruption in water supply, Lobo assured.
To a question on the delay in the construction of the second vented dam. Lobo said the problem was mainly due to the contractor who has been assigned the work.
He said a meeting of the elected representatives, officials and contractors would be convened t o discuss the issue as soon as the new cabinet is formed. The meeting would decide if the existing contractor should be replaced, Lobo further added.
MCC Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar, Water Board’s Assistant Executive Engineer Rangaraju, Assistant Engineer Shekhar and other officials were present.
