Mangalore Janu 4, 2016: “Mission Indra Dhanush” has made a strong foundation to make “Polio Free nation” said MLA, J.R.Lobo after inaugurating “Mission Indra Dhanush-2016” organized by Health and Family welfare department, Dakshina Kannada, held at Lady Goshen Hospital, Mangalore on Jan 4th, Monday.  He said that the last polio case from Karnataka was reported in 2007; while in Dakshina Kannada the last polio case was reported in 1999.

Polio was seen mainly in children who have migrated along with their parents from different regions . Make sure that they are taken care of so as to stop spreading. People’s support to the Health department is essential to make this mission effective.

RCH (Reproductive Child Health Officer) officer Sikander Pasha said that as per the plans we should reach out to the target group to make polio free nation. By the end of January we should be able to reach out 977 Pregnant Women and 4373 children. This is the fourth and final round of Mission Indra Dhanush starting from 4th January 2016 to 12th January 2016.  Polio drops will be given today followed by home visit to reach the given target, he added.

Vaccination for the children below 5 years, along with polio drops, BCG, Hepatitis B, Hemophilia Influenza B, Diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and pentavalent will be given. Dhanurvayu TT vaccination is also provided for pregnant women during these days.
