Udupi, March 07, 2016: Former MP Jayaprakash Hegde has clarified on his stand pertaining to the demand for an underpass at Ambalpady Junction following allegations heard at a recent protest that he had recommended construction of a foot overbridge at the Junction in a letter to Oscar Fernandes when the latter was the Transport Minister.
Speaking to reporters here on March 7, Monday, Hegde said he had in fact written a letter to Oscar in 2014 seeking a foot overbridge and added that he stood by it even now. He also argued that an elevated foot overbridge at Ambalpady was far better than an underpass and that an underpass without a service road would be of little help. Moreover there will also be problems due to water stagnation in underpass, he said.
At the same time, Hegde said if people want a change in plan he will have no objection and that he was willing to offer his suggestions any time.
On the poor show of the Congress in the recently held Panchayat elections, Hegde said the party could have managed to win a few more seats had he not been expelled.
He said he has not decided on his political future or with regard to joining any party. He also stated that he will consult his supporters before taking any decision.
