Introduce Karanth to students for betterment

Mangaluru, Oct 16, 2019:  Speaking at ‘Karantha Namana’ programme organised by the University College Mangaluru in memory of its proud alumni Shivarama Karanth, University College Mangaluru retired principal Dr Sathyanarayana Mallipatna.  said that Karantha never used to preach.

Jnanpith awardee Shivarama Karanth achieved what a university can achieve with his about 17,000 pages of writing, 400 books and thousands of letters, which are collection worthy.

Karanth wrote plays and acted, wrote for children, started a press, even became a carpenter, started a school for children and tried to spread Gandhi’s thoughts. Let us try to follow him as much as possible, he added.

College principal Dr Uday Kumar M A defined Shivarama Karanth as a pure scientist.

He had the habit to experiment with life and explore something new. He loved all and answered even children’s questions with utmost seriousness. “We, the teachers should try to introduce Karanth more among students,” he added.

Head of Hindi Department Dr Nagarathna N Rao was present.
