Mangaluru, Dec 11, 2015 :   Mangaluru North MLA Mohiuddin Bava has  refuted the allegations that Mangaluru Rural Circle Inspector Pramod Kumar was  sent on leave at his behest. The MLA at the same time  claimed that the person arrested by the Circle Inspector in connection with the Ulaibettu clashes was innocent.

The MLA’s reaction comes almost two days after the personnel of the Mangaluru Rural Police Station went on a protest against what they termed the ’action’ initiated against Pramod by asking him to go on leave.

While accusing the Sangh Parivar of  giving a political colour to the incident, the MLA also stated that  he had called the DCP  just because the family of the arrested person named Aboobakker Siddiqui approached him seeking help. Neither I nor the other ministers from the District have pressurised the police to release  the arrested person, he said.

The MLA also stated that the family of the accused claimed that  the latter was innocent and had also pleaded for a thorough investigation into the case.

"I only asked the police not to arrest innocent people," the MLA said.  No innocent must be arrested whichever religion he belongs to," the MLA stated.

Referring to the fact that even the Sangh Parivar   had  joined the protest  of the police personnel against sending Pramod on leave, MLA Bava said probably this was one example which indicated that the recent sting operation which showed a BJP MLC stating that 50 per cent of police force  had RSS workers, might be true.

When asked how he was sure that the arrested person was innocent, the MLA said "The police who had intended to arrest a person named Naseer, instead arrested Aboobakker when they could not find the former."
