Information display on city history neglected

Mangaluru, June 30, 2019: In the last few years citizens have observed that information plaques/boards have been provided for all worthy historical places in Mangaluru. These were provided with great fanfare by Tourism department and produced with help of so called ’experts’ in Kannada and English. May I suggest, learned people conveying local history need to be very watchful not to convey defective and questionable information - often it is seen that vested interest distort details to suit their ends, this is very immoral.   Though, many flaws crept in they at least gave a line or two of very basic information to all who saw them.

Over the years, the  weather /elements have caused some of these boards to deteriorate and some are defaced by miscreants. However, in spite of pointing out the fact, no remedy is provided even after a year. After correction it is necessary that the display is provided with a protective barrier so it is not tampered with. The smart city project can allot funds for better display in the near future. This effort will serve well the people visiting the places and local dwellers too. Please look into this and set matters right without delay.
