Informatics, telemedicine play important role in healthcare sector: H Vinod Bhat

Udupi: September 13, 2015: Vice Chancellor of Manipal University H. Vinod Bhat has said that informatics, telemedicine, hospital administration and medical imaging play an important role in the healthcare sector.

He was speaking at the inaugural function of the first National Conference on Health Informatics HINCON 2015, here on Saturday.

Dr. Bhat said these technologies can help provide quick diagnostic service, besides support for unforeseen emergencies at rural and remote locations in the country. “Involvement of engineering in the health sector plays a pivotal role in treatment protocol development,” he said, according to a press release.

A panel of experts from educational institutions and the industry discussed health informatics education in India and around the globe. They also addressed the need for rapid growth in the use of information technology in healthcare sector and the need for more such institutes.

As many as 60 scientific papers were presented by the delegates.

Speaking as guest of honour, B. Rajashekhar, Dean of School of Allied Health Sciences, spoke on the rapid growth and collaboration of the two departments — Department of Public Health and Department of Health Information Management, School of Allied Health Sciences, Manipal University, organising the event.
