Industries Interaction Meet held in City

Mangalore, Nov 3: Union Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises hosted an Industries Interaction meet at Hotel Gateway in Mangalore on Tuesday, November 3, 2009. Addressing representatives of various small and medium industries of the district, Secretary of the Ministry Dinesh Rai, IAS, said that industrial sector has lot of problems related to sickness and the government is taking several new initiatives to help them. He also said that the sector is seeking co-operation for skill development and looking forward for big ticket proposals. Since majority of the population are youngsters, they must be provided with job opportunity, he said.

He discussed various improvements in marketing for industrial sector, up-coming industrial estates and different schemes provided by the government.

Speaking on the occasion, Sumith Rao, president, District Industries Association said that the government has done away with the preferential pricing advantage provided to small industries for government purchases. Now preference is restricted only in purchase and does apply for pricing, he said. He also said funds were available for unemployed educated youth to set up industries under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMEGP) and such ventures are eligible for 35% subsidy in rural areas and 25% subsidy in urban areas.
