Indian Coast Guard DG to visit Mangaluru HQ on Dec 16

Indian coast guard dg BishtMangaluru, Dec 15, 2015: Vice Admiral HCS Bisht, AVSM, Director General, Indian Coast Guard (DGICG) will visit Coast Guard District Headquarters (Karnataka) at Mangalore on Wednesday, December 16, 2015. The visit is aimed to review the operational preparedness and infrastructure development of the Coast Guard in the State of Karnataka.

 

The Flag Officer, who took the reins of the Coast Guard service on 01 February 2015, is an alumnus of the National Defence Academy Khadakvasla, Pune and the Naval Academy, Kochi.  He was commissioned in the Executive Branch of the Indian Navy as a Surface Warfare Officer on 01 July 1979.

The Director General is a graduate of the 1992 batch of the Royal Naval Staff College, Greenwich (UK). He also attended the Naval Higher Command Course at the College of Naval Warfare, Karanja, Mumbai in 2001 and is an alumni of 47th NDC Course at New Delhi in 2007.

During his magnificent career spanning over 36 years, the Flag Officer has undertaken various important afloat, training and staff appointments. He commissioned the Missile Corvette INS Kora as the Commanding Officer and has also commanded the Stealth Frigate, INS Tabar. He has been the      Defence Attaché at the High Commission of India, Singapore.                               

He has also undertaken the coveted appointment of Flag Officer Commanding Eastern Fleet at Visakhapatnam and the Controller Personnel Services (CPS) at IHQ, MoD (N), prior to his appointment as the Director General of the Indian Coast Guard. 

The visit of the Director General to Mangalore is significant in view of the growing Coast Guard operations off Karnataka. The force levels and manpower at Mangalore are being augmented to boost the coastal security of the Maritime State of Karnataka.
