India needs labour movement to check capitalism – CITU Vice President Madhava

Mangalore, May 2, 2012  : Speaking on the occasion of May Day in Town Hall, at an event organized by Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) and its affiliates, B. Madhava, the vice president of CITU, said that India needs a labour movement such as those in Greece, South Africa, Kazakhstan, Portugal, and others to bring capitalism under control.

Referring to the pan-India labor union strike, he said that crores of labourers demanded their basic rights on the occasion. Criticizing the state cabinet for its decision to increase working hours from 8 to 10 hours, he said that the government is exploiting the state’s labor force.

Balakrishna Shetty, the president of the district unit of the CITU, along with Mohammed Mustafa, Babu Devadiga, Shridhar, Kushala, Ahmed Bava, and many other labour union leaders were also present.

A procession from Ambedkar Circle to Town Hall marked the beginning of the event.
