Include Human Rights in school curriculum : SHRC Chief Meera Saxena

Mangaluru Mar 4, 2016: Chairperson of Karnataka State Human Right Commission  Meera Saxena said that Human Rights education need to be part of school curriculum  in order to enlighten the students and also to help effectively deal with cases of violation of human rights.

She was speaking  after inaugurating a two day International seminar on ’Human Rights Education for Social Work Practices’ at Roshni Nilaya  on March 4, Friday.

She further stated that many children and women are traded as commodities for begging and taken to the brothels in Mumbai and Goa. Several cases wherein children are exploited within the families and also cases of exploitation of women in the name of  religious beliefs need to be prevented, said Meera.

She also said that  police face tremendous pressure from the government, media and public to ensure justice in cases of human rights violation.

 City Police Commissioner Chandrashekar who was present as a chief guest stressed the need to check crime in the society.

Advocate Pramila Nesargi, Philomena D’Souza and Rameela Shekar were present among others.
