Udupi, Oct 29, 2014: The Inauguration and blessing of GORETTI CONVENT  at Kallianpur Santhakatte will be on Thursday, October 30, 2014 at 4 pm. Most Rev Dr Gerald Lobo, Bishop of Udupi diocese will bless the new Convent.

V.Rev St.Nanditha Pereira SRA, Superior General (Vienna-Austria) will inaugurate. The opening ceremony will be followed by Eucharistic celebration. Thereafter a stage and felicitation programme will follow on the campus. Many dignitaries and invitees will participate.

The SRA Congregation :  Missionary Sisters of the Queen of the Apostles is an Apostolic Religious Congregation of pontifical right, widely known as SRA.  It was granted  full church status 1st July 1923 in Vienna.  SRA nuns are serving in  seven countries- Austria, Germany, Italy, Slovakia, India, Philippines and Uganda. Its Mangalore Province is a large one covering the whole of Karnataka and Goa with over 20 establishments.

GORETTI CONVENT :  On this serene campus a stones throw from  Santhakatte on the way to historic picturesque Kallianpur there is a cluster of  institutions that care for a variety of humans in distress and wellness. ’Goretti Hospital’ is an inpatient and out patient General Hospital with a very good infrastructure and medical know how, Geriatric Services within the Hospital tend to the needs of the aged and ailing professionally, Nursing Aide Training, helps poor rural students who can not afford higher education to find attractive employment. Second ’Sandhya Dham’ a home to shelter Senior Citizens on adequate paying terms. Third Parivar Social Center for Community and Social medicine by way of awareness and counselling where needed.

CYNTHIA FERNANDES PALLIATIVE CARE CENTRE: This very humane facility established on January 5, 2006, is donated and maintained by Mr.Leslie Fernandes in memory of his late wife Cynthia. This Centre is in the fore front without commercialism to provide care and concern  along with professional palliative pain control and nursing support for advanced stage cancer patients in a serene, natural and spiritual environment of the Goretti Institutions.

It augurs well that the back bone of this effectively run institution catering to the most in need - the SRA nuns, are set to get a better  community house after several years of struggle in cramped quarters.
