In DK Police ’strike’ not seen, dist heads discuss with supporters

Mangaluru, June 05, 2016: State police personnel had threatened to go on mass leave on June 4, saturday, this did not materialize in DK and police stations all over the district and Mangaluru city, functioned normally according to reports received.

spDK SP, Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said that there were no absentees. City Police Commissioner M Chandra Sekhar said that the police personnel have affirmed their faith in the state government solving their problems.

It was stated that families of the police personnel submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah through the DK DC and the city police commissioner, demanding redress of grievances.

The Police Commissioner and the SP had visited all the police stations on June 3,  Friday and convinced the police personnel not to go on mass leave in protest against harassment and lesser pay.

DK Deputy Commissioner Adoor B Ibrahim, the City Police Commissioner and the SP spoke to the families of the police personnel who had gathered at Sri Muneeshwara Maha Ganapathi temple hall at the police lane in Pandeshwar with their demands. In a memorandum submitted to the chief minister, the family members urged the government to set right the discrimination in the payment of salary and solve the problems faced by the police personnel.

They also demanded that the Seventh Pay Commission of the Centre be implemented and the risk allowance should be paid and a weekly off should be compulsorily given to the police. Overtime duty allowance should be given for personnel who work more than eight hours in a day.

The family members urged the constitution of a district-level anti-harassment cell to listen to the grievances of police personnel who face harassment from higher authorities. In case of emergency related works, quality food should be supplied to police who are on duty. The daily allowance for the personnel who are sent outstation for work should be hiked to Rs 500 from Rs 115.

Speaking to media present after  meeting the families, city PC Chandra Sekhar said, "Our DK DC, SP and I met the families of the police personnel and will make effortsto meet their demands. Some of the demands have to be solved at state-level, they will be sent to the state government. The issue of weekly off for the personnel will be dealt with as soon as possible."

DK DC Adoor B Ibrahim said all the problems concerning sanitation and infrastructure at the police quarters will be looked into with immediate effect.
