Implement Somashekhar Commission recommendations, Congress tells Govt.

MANGALORE: Feb.4: The District Congress Committee staged a dharna in front of the DC office in the city on February 4, Thursday to urge the government to implement the recommendations made in the interim report of the Justice B K Somashekhar Commission probing into the church attack case. The protest was led by DK Shivakumar, Working President of KPCC.

Addressing the agitators, Harikrishna Bantwal, Congress leader demanded that the government acted immediately based on the recommendations of the Commission and enforce a ban on the VHP, Bhajrangdal and the Sri Rama Sene, whom the Commission has pointed out as the accused in the church attack cases.

The Congress, he warned would stage a severe protest if the government failed to adhere to the recommendations of the Commission.

DK Shivakumar who also spoke said the CM who recently even mentioned of breaking the hands of those attacking religious places, was now silent after the Somashekhar Commission had submitted its report. Commenting on Home Minister VS Acharya’s remarks that the government was unable to provide protection to churches due to inadequate police force, he said the minister’s statement only revealed the failure of the government to impart social justice.
