Impact of Yettinahole project must be thoroughly studied: Dr Ullas Karanth

Mangalore, Dec 26, 2013: Dr Ullas Karanth, renowned conservation zoologist and tiger expert has that there should be a comprehensive study by experts including ecologists, hydrologists and engineers, on the impact of the proposed Yettinahole project.


Participating in an interactive meet organised by the Vanya Charana Balaga, Mangalore on December 25, Wednesday, he also urged the government to reconsider the controversial project.”Pointing out that the proposed project will have drastic consequences, he said there is a need for study on how the project would affect various other resources. No development project should be initiated without proper clearance from the Ministry of Environment and Forests and other  entities, he asserted.

Dr Karanth said there was a need for effective utilisation of Wildlife Protection Act and added it was due to the effective use of the Act that led to the formation of the Kudremukh, Pushpagiri and Brahmagiri sanctuaries.


Niren Jain from Kudremukh Wildlife Foundation who also spoke expressed the fears that  not even a single stream in Netravathi catchment area may remain pristine once the proposed Yettinahole project comes up.
