Illegal confinement of minor girl: Accused gets 44 days jail

minor abductMangaluru, Sep 18, 2016: The Sixth Additional District and Sessions Court  which has passed its judgement regarding a seven year old case wherein a 16 year old girl was abducted from Pumpwell, taken to different places in Kerala, kept in illegal confinement and allegedly raped,   has sentenced the accused Mustafa (34) of Bantwal to just 44 days of imprisonment apart from penalty.

The accused has been absolved of charges of abduction and rape as there were no sufficient evidences to prove the same.  Only the charge of illegal confinement has been proved. Apart from 44 days imprisonment, the court has slapped a fine of Rs 500 on him and also  another fine amount of Rs 10,000 which has to be paid to the victim as compensation.

The case had aroused much curiosity with some outfits even dubbing this as a Love Jihad. The  girl who was abducted  on March 1, 2009 and was traced  at a house at Kannur on April 6, 2009. Later the girl in her complaint had alleged that the  accused had placed her in confinement in different places and had also subject her to sexual assault.
