Mangaluru, Oct 25, 2016: Chief Whip of the government in State Legislative Council Ivan D’Souza claimed innocence over the recent study conducted by a team of experts from IISc, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, on the viability of proposed Yettinahole project.

Ivan D’SouzaReacting to media, MLC D’Souza replied in negative when he was asked whether he was aware of the study conducted by IISc experts, who have opined that it would not be beneficial to anybody if the government goes ahead with the same.

He blamed the previous BJP-led state government, stating that it was during the tenure of the then chief minister DVSadananda Gowda that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) was prepared, while during the tenure of his successor JagadishShettar, a survey was conducted on the same.

Referring to allegations made byDakshina Kannada MPNalin Kumar Kateel who accused the chief minister and several other leaders of receiving kickbacks towards the implementation of Yettinahole project, the MLC  dismissed the same as “mischievous statement.” He dared Kateel to produce proof, if any, in his support and submit the same either to him or to the government.  To another query, MLC Ivan clarified that he would oppose any irrigation project that does more harm than benefit to people.

MLC Ivan, who took a dig atBJP leaders crying hoarse, following the murder of RSS, Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangha worker Rudresh in Bengaluru recently, termed it as an attempt on the part of saffron party to politicise the issue. People are already aware that BJP is known for ‘revenge politics’ and the recent developments reaffirm the same.

Stating that BJP leaders are practising dual attitude, Ivan said that the same leaders remained mum when a right-wing worker Praveen Poojary was done to death at Hebri in Udupi district. Similar was their response to murder of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga. Rudresh’s murder has assumed significance just because he was a RSS worker and the government is doing its best to crack the case by forming several police teams.
