Iconic clock tower to wow visitors at Kadri fruits flower show

Mangaluru, Jan 25, 2018: Namma Kudla’s iconic clock tower will make a flowery come back at the fruits and flower show that gets underway at Kadri Park on jan 26, Friday.

A replica of this much vaunted landmark of  the past will greet visitors as they enter the main exhibition-cum-sale arena inside the Kadri Park over the next four-days. The ’clock tower’ frame will be covered with nearly 150-kgs of carnations and roses, M R Ravi, CEO, Dakshina Kannada Zila Panchayat, said.

B Ramanath Rai, district minister will inaugurate the event organised jointly by Zila Panchayat, district administration and Siri Horticulture Association, Ravi said, adding the event is aimed at encouraging people to get in to horticulture activities in the district. It will also send out a message on environment protection, public cleanliness and beautification of towns and cities using horticultural solutions and giving an overall fillip to horticulture, Ravi said.


Information will be provided on bee-rearing and value addition to honey, terrace gardening and allied activities. Development department of the government will set up kiosks to disseminate information on government schemes to people at large, Ravi said, adding visitors can also see the different varieties of fruits and flowers reared by horticulture department. Bonsai, anthurium, orchids will be the special attraction for people visiting the show, the CEO noted.


Nurseries, manufacturers and sellers of seeds, fertilisers and machineries too will set up stalls for the benefit of stakeholders, he said. The road leading to Kadri Park will be closed and food stalls set up on either side. A mini stage erected on the road will play host to talent from across the district who will present cultural programmes every day for 3-hours from 5.30pm. A stall on Swachh Bharat mission will propagate ideas about biogas, bio-bins in apartments, he noted.


Flower arrangement, flower rangoli and vegetable carving competitions will be held on January 26. Organisers will accept spot entries, he said. Entry to school students accompanied by teachers, differently-abled and special persons will be free. Adults will be charged Rs 20 and children Rs 10. The organisers have taken up the responsibility of manning the ticket counters after tenders invited for the purpose failed to evoke enthusiastic response, CEO Ravi informs.
