II PUC results: Udupi tops with 92.20 pass percentage; DK retains 2nd position

Mangaluru, July 14, 2020: The department of pre-university education on Monday announced the results for second PU exams 2019. Udupi district tops the list with a pass percentage of 92.20%, followed by Dakshin Kannada district at 90.71%.

Abhijna Rao, a student of Vidyodaya Pre-University College of Udupi has emerged the topper in the state in II PUC Science stream by securing  99.33%  (596). Prithvi from Boscoss PU College stood first in Mangaluru taluk by securing 592 marks. Apoorva M, student of Vikas PU College in Mangaluru is the fourth topper in the State in commerce stream with 594 marks.

This year  a total  34,287 students  had appeared for the exam in the Dakshina Kannada district.  Of the total  17,189 girls who appeared  15,561 have passed thus registering a pass percentage of 90.53 as against boys who registered an overall pass percentage of 81.49. Of the  17,098 boys who appeared for the exams, 13,933 have passed. As many as  6,121 students had written the exam in Kannada medium of whom  4,093 have  succeeded. The overall pass percentage in Arts stream is 64.92  while in Commerce  it is 85..48 and in Science stream the pass percentage is 93.69.

This year, 61.73% of the students in Karnataka have passed the board exam pushing the pass per cent up from the previous year. Last year, 59.56% of the 6,85,713 students who had taken the exams had passed. Girls have performed better this year too with a pass percentage of 68.24% against 62.88% of the boys. Of the 6,71,653 students that appeared for this year’s exams, 4,14,587 of them passed.

While Bengaluru South stands in the eighth position, lower than even Bagalkote district, Bengaluru Rural is at 10 while Bengaluru North is at position 11.

This year, 68.68% of the students who took the exams for the first time have managed to pass. As many as 54,823 have scored distinction, a score above 85% in this year’s examinations while 2,27,301 students have scored a first-class mark.

Over two lakh students appeared for the exams this year in each of the streams- arts, science and commerce. The pass percentage in Commerce is 66.39%, that of Science is 66.58% and arts was the lowest at 50.53%.
