IGP Amrit Paul stresses greater awareness on dangers of drug abuse

Mangaluru, Sep 18, 2015:   Videos on the consequences of drug abuse should be screened in order to sensitize youngsters on the dangers of drug abuse, said IGP (Western Range) Amrit Paul.

Speaking after inaugurating a day long seminar on ‘Drug Abuse among Children’ at the Roshni Nilaya School of Social Work on September 18, Friday, Amrit Paul said students in fact are not interested in getting addicted to drugs. “They just want to have an experience of it and once they try they get addicted to it,” he warned.

 

 

 

Pointing out that drug abuse was at its highest in Punjab which nearly 25 per cent students addicted to drugs in that state, the IGP pointed out that in most cases drugs make inroads into India from Pakistan.

Walter D’Mello, DDPI who was also present said it was a matter of great concern to note that even  high school students are getting addicted to drugs in the recent times. He also said this has necessitated holding of awareness programmes at primary school level.

SP Dr Sharanappa who was present, released a book entitled "Crime Collection’  brought out by the Department of Criminology and Forensic Science of Roshni Nilaya.

Prof B M Madhav of the Department of Research, Dr Sophia Fernandes, Principal of Roshni Nilaya, Dr Lakshmi Narayan, Registrar were present among others.

Earlier,  ‘Forensic Exhibition 2015’ was inaugurated at the institution premises by the IGP. The seminar was jointly organized by the Department of Criminology and Forensic Science of Roshni Nilaya and the Police Department of Mangaluru.
