ICS training programme commences at KCCI

Mangalore, Sep 02, 2014: The training programme for the examination of Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, London (ICS) for the year 2014-15, has commenced at the ICS examination centre in Mangalore at Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI).

NMPT Deputy Conservator, Pradeep Mohanty inaugurated the programme at KCCI on Sept 1. On the occasion, two candidates of the Mangalore centre who excelled in ICS exam—Sanjeeva Poojary of Mangalore and Vysakh of Andhra Pradesh— were felicitated. KCCI former president Captain J P Menezes, P KS Pillai, Rammohan Pai Maroor among others spoke.

Shortage of students : CG Prashant, in-charge of the Mangalore examination centre at KCCI said that the centre has been facing shortage of students.  The centre is the first and only one in Karnataka which enables candidates to write the examination here without going to Chennai or Mumbai.

Though 10 to 15 students are required to keep the centre going, only 13 students attended the test held in this April, said Prashant. Since its inception four year ago, as many as 15 students have cleared the ICS examination from Mangalore. The ICS qualification has been regarded as a global passport in the maritime sector which fetches worldwide recognition and better career prospects.

Anyone, regardless of age, profession and qualification can attend the exam which comprises of seven papers of which four are compulsory and rest optional.  Anoop Purushothaman, who was a student last year at the centre was the first rank holder in Shipping Law paper at international-level.
