Both Hovercraft 196 and Hovercraft 198 had been  inaugurated by the State Governor recently and are anchored close by the Coast Guard Headquarters at Panambur. However on Thursday morning while it was heading towards the sea  the vehicle has hit an acacia tree.

What is surprising is that the Hovercraft had come closer to the trees though there was abundant space for its movement in the area. The suspicion is that some inexperienced person might  have chosen to drive it towards the sea.

The rubber tube and the outer deck of the Hovercraft has been damaged and the loss has been estimated at over Rs one crore.

Even media personnel were not permitted to visit the site of the Mishap. No complaint has been lodged in this regard.
