House in Padil collapses

Mangalore, Sep 2, 2012: A house in Padil collapsed on September 2, Sunday, putting the entire family into severe hardship. 

Geetha Achary, wife of Lingappa Achary, the owner of the house, was preparing food when the roof and the wall collapsed. Fortunately, Geetha is uninjured. Lingappa Achary had gone out to purchase groceries.

The house was nearly 40 years old and the continuous rains had destroyed the wall. Geetha Achary has moved to her mother’s house in Padil. The couple has a 24-year-old mentally ill son, who had to stop working a few years back because of his mental illness. 

Geetha, member of the Shree Dharmasthala self-help group, rolls beedies to earn a living.

Corporator Sudhir Kannur visited the family.
