Horticultural, floricultural expo at Kadri Park, January 26 to 28

Mangaluru, Jan 24, 2019: A ship made of roses and carnations of many colours will be a major attraction at the three-day horticultural and floricultural exhibition which will begin at Kadri Park here from January 26 to 28.

Organised by the Department of Horticulture and Siri Totagarike Sangha, the event will also showcase different topiary (shapes of animals, birds or any other objects) made from colourful flowers.

Addressing media on January 23, Wednesday H.R. Nayak, Deputy Director, Department of Horticulture, Dakshina Kannada, said there would be display of fruits and vegetables, orchids, anthuriums and other flowers.

The department would sell saplings of budded rose, chrysanthemum, anthurium, gerbera, hibiscus, and other flowers, and vegetables and fruits. They would be sold by the taluk wings of the department. There will be vegetable carvings and model vegetable garden.

There will be demonstration of drip irrigation, bee-keeping, growing mushrooms, arranging cut flowers, hydroponics, and the like. Value-added products of honey and other products would also be on sale. There will be free entry for physically challenged, special-needs children, and schoolchildren wearing uniform who come in groups along with their teachers. The entry fee for an adult will be Rs. 20 and it will be Rs. 10 for a child.

Different nurseries, seed and manure sellers, and those selling farm implements will also put up their stalls. The exhibition will be inaugurated at 10.30 a.m. by U.T. Khader, Minister in charge of Dakshina Kannada. K. Prathapchandra Shetty, Chairman, Legislative Council, and D. Vedavyasa Kamath, MLA, Mangaluru City South, will be present.
