Dr. Vishal said any legal action taken by the Udupi City Municipal Council in this regard would also get cooperation from the officials of police and revenue departments.

Earlier, D. Manjunathayya, CMC Commissioner, said lack of proper parking facilities in multi-storied buildings in the city was responsible for many traffic problems. This problem was acute in areas including the Old Diana Circle, Court Road and Taluk Panchayat Road.

Many consumers or residents of these buildings were parking vehicles on the roads leading to traffic snarls. Mobile carts parked near the major bus terminuses and many autorickshaw stands in the city too were adding to traffic woes, he said. Dr. Vishal directed Mr. Manjunathayya to take action against such mobile carts. He also asked the National Highway Department to install street lamps at Nittur here to reduce road accidents on National Highway 66. K. Annamalai, Superintendent of Police, said that an amount of Rs. 2 crore would be provided by the Coastal Protection Fund for installation of CCTV cameras and other facilities. This would also help curb some traffic problems. The Udupi CMC had already provided 20 traffic umbrellas and 50 barricades.
