Heroic effort: Boy rescues friend from drowning in overflowing stream

Belthangady, June 22, 2018: Sujaya, a fifth standard student from Pandinje Government Higher Primary School in Nittade village of Belthangady taluk, has turned out to be the hero of his village after he rescued his  friend and schoolmate from drowning in an overflowing stream on Thursday, thanks to his great presence of mind.

Sujaya and his friend Aditya, a class six student of the same school were returning home from school in the evening. They had to cross a small pedestrian bridge made from areca planks, across a stream at Dambe. Sujaya was walking ahead of Aditya when the latter suddenly slipped. Aditya was about to  fall into the stream when Sujaya all of a sudden grabbed his leg. However, the little boy could not lift Aditya who was hanging upside down. Both boys raised a cry finding no other way. A nearby  resident Jayananda Saathe who heard the cries of the boys rushed along with Aditya’s father Ratnaker Hebbar and others and eventually lifted Aditya. Sujaya had held Aditya for almost four to five minutes until help arrived.

The whole village is praising the heroic deed of Sujaya who has now become the talk of the town.
