Helmet compulsory for college students from October 1: Annamalai

Udupi: September 4, 2015: Annamalai, District Superintendent of Police said here on Friday that helmet will be compulsory for the college students riding two-wheeler from October 1.

Speaking on the occasion of ’Road Traffic Rules and prevention of crimes’ organised at Tri-Centenary Auditorium in Millagrese Church, Annamalai said, ’Over 1.6 lakh people die in road accident, and around fifty people die every day. India ranks second in vehicle collisions following China which is number 1. He said that most youths die in the accident than any. Camps like this will provide awareness to students which can reflect in decreasing accidents.

In addition to that he said. ’From October 1, the police will regularly inspect all bikes of students, and the vehicles without documents will be seized. The parents of those students will be called to the Police Station and the vehicle will be handed over to them after paying the fine.

He said the Police Department is more concerned about the lives of people. The stringent decision is taken in order to protect future accidents. Students must be caution and take care of their lives. If any students comes across accidents he must immediately inform it the police, he added.
