Hebri bandh, March 17, demanding taluk status

Udupi, Mar 18, 2017: Reports reveal a huge procession was taken out and  protests staged at Hebri Junction. The members of Hebri Horata Samiti charged that the government is biased and has only announced three taluks. It has ignored Hebri, wherein the demand for the formation of taluk is pending since 57 years, they said.

HebriA massive protest rally was held against the government for not announcing the formation of Hebri taluk by blocking the road symbolically.  The shops and other outlets were shut down for more than two hours  supporting  protest.  The protesters raised slogans against the state government.

Speaking at the protest rally, Karkala APMC president Mutlapadi Sathish Shetty charged that people’s representatives of Congress should be held responsible for this injustice. The government is prejudiced and has ignored the demand of the people of Hebri.

Hebri Taluk Horata Samiti president Bhaskar Jois said the people are highly disappointed for ignoring their demand. The government even now can announce the taluk formation in Hebri.  Karnataka Rakshana Vedike Udupi district president Anwar Ahmed said Hebri is geographically suitable for the taluk status unlike Kaup. There are many decisive factors which enable Hebri for transformation.
