Mangaluru, August 6, 2019: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds, thunder and lightning across the district has disrupted normal life in several places. Holiday was declared for schools and pre-university colleges in Kadaba, Belthangady and Puttur taluks on Tuesday following heavy rains.
Deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil on Tuesday declared ‘Red Alert’ in the Dakshina Kannada district for next two days, August 7th and 8th.
In Bantwal, three houses were damaged due to rains. Heavy rains in Subrahmanya area has resulted in disruption of electricity and telecommunication services. Even Belthangady, Ujire, Charmady and Dharmasthala areas are experiencing heavy rains.
Several places of Udupi district too have received heavy to very heavy rains.
Tree uprooted near Nanthoor
Mangaluru: Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds have uprooted a huge tree near the Kandettu-Shaktinagar road near Nantur on Monday night.
The heavy rains have also resulted in land slip and damage to roads at places like Someshwara, Vittla Kolnadu, Kambalapadavu and Kotekani.
Charmady Ghat: Huge tree falls on road
This resulted in long queues of vehicles on either sides of the road. Social worker Charmady Hasanabba and locals swung into action and vacated the tree branches from the road.
