Heavy rain forecast for the next seven days

Mangaluru, Aug 22, 2019: In view of the forecast of heavy rain for the next seven days, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S. on Wednesday asked people living in low-lying areas to take precautions.

According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre, widespread, moderate to rather heavy rain is most likely over coastal and adjoining parts of Malnad region.

Scattered to fairly widespread light to moderate rain with isolated heavy rain are likely over interior Karnataka districts.

With strong winds, speed reaching 45 kmph-55 kmph, very likely to prevail over South-West Arabian Sea and South-West Bay of Bengal, fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea in these areas.

Many parts of Dakshina Kannada received good rainfall on Wednesday.

In the last 24 hours ended at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, the district recorded an average rainfall of 23.4 mm. Mangaluru Taluk recorded the highest average rainfall of 34.5 mm, followed by Sullia taluk with 31.3 mm, Puttur taluk 18.7 mm, Bantwal taluk 18.1 mm and Belthangady taluk with 14.2 mm during the same period.

The total average rainfall recorded in the district from January 1, 2019 to August 21 was 2,583.7 mm against the district normal average rainfall of 3,249.6 mm till August-end.

Last year, the district recorded an average rainfall of 4024.3 mm as on August 21.
