During the meeting when Ugrappa asked the SP as to why there were no committees at each police station level, Annamalai said  the need for such committees did not arise as  the district level committee was functioning effectively and also that there was no rule as such to form committees at the police station level to tackle crime against women.

Matters turned grave when two youth who were present in the meeting clapped much to the fury  of Ugrappa who questioned the reason  for their clapping. It is learnt the youth told the police that they were pleased with the SP’s reply.

Realising the gravity of the situation, Deputy Commissioner Vishal asked  the police to take the two  youth into custody. SP Annamalai later tendered an apology to Ugrappa.
