Mangalore, Dec 24, 2013 : There is a need to find an effective mechanism to tackle the problems arising in the process of solid waste management and recycling plastic, said State Health and Family Welfare Minister UT Khader.
He was speaking after inaugurating a state level technical seminar ‘CanPlast 2013’ organised by Canara Plastic Manufacturers and Traders Association (CPMTA), Mangalore on December 23, Monday. The Minister further said apart from MCC there are also informal waste collectors in Mangalore in the form of rag pickers and stray cattle.
Ajith Kumar Hegde, MCC Commissioner who was present as a chief guest opined that there should be an alternate plan to recycle solid waste.
Mohammed Ameen, President, Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry, regretted the fact that solid waste management was a much neglected issue in the nation while it need to get top most attention.
Dr HC Sharatchandra, former chairman of Karnataka State Pollution Control Board, spoke on ‘Sustainable Waste Management, while Tushar Kanti Bandopadhyaya of Indian Centre for Plastics, Mumbai delivered a talk on ‘Plastic Waste Management and Recycling Technologies.’ There was also a lecture on ‘Plastic Waste to Road Construction’ by K Rasool Khan and Sapna of K K Plastic Work Management, Bangalore. TK Raghavendra Rao from Sustainable Technologies and Environmental Projects, Mumbai spoke on ‘Innovative MSW Management System.’
