HR Foundation helps secure justice to 62 yr old widow cheated by own son

Udupi, May 19, 2015 : A 62 year old woman from Bengaluru who was  cheated by her own son by reportedly  transferring all her property in his name without her knowledge, is now a happy lot after she has secured justice, thanks to the support extended to her by the Human Rights Protection Foundation of Udupi.

Speaking to reporters here on May 18, Monday, Dr Ravindranath Shanbagh of the Foundation said Vishalakshamma, a widow who lived at Gottagere in Bengaluru  had suffered a lot after her son Prashant Kumar (24) transferred the two houses she owned, one which was in her late husband’s name and another in her own name, into  his name in 2007 and 2009. Shanbagh also stated that Prashanth asked his mother to quit the house, after he got married, forcing her to stay in an old age home.

He  said her complaint with the Assistant Commissioner of Senior Citizens Tribunal in 2013 and also her appeal with as many as 27 government departments turned out to be a futile exercise until the Foundation came to her help.

Shanbagh said he had addressed a letter to the Karnataka Minister for Women and Child Development Umashree on April 23, 2015 with all the details. The Department had assured to resolve the case in 20 days. Shanbagh further informed that on May 16, he received a mail from Ruhini Sapat, Deputy Police commissioner, Bengaluru ordering to requite all property from Prashanth under police protection.

The orders of the DCP also stated that the Foundation volunteers have to stay with Vishalakshamma  to ensure that no harm was done to her.

Vishalakshamma who was also present thanked  all the authorities as well as the Foundation for assisting her. She also alleged that her son has taken away  a cash of Rs 1.5 lakh and gold jewels from her. She further  stated that she was willing to forgive her son but would not stay with him.
