HC grants bail to accused in Sharath murder, July 2017 at Bantwal

Mangaluru, June 23, 2018: As per reports received here, the Karnataka High Court on June 22, Friday granted bail to Mohammed Sharif, the first accused in the murder of RSS worker Sharath Madiwala in Bantwal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district last year.

Justice Michael D’Cunha was hearing an appeal filed by Sharif, seeking bail.The court also asked him to deposit a surety amounting to Rs 2 lakh.

Sharath was brutally assaulted by a group of miscreants on BC Road in Bantwal taluk on July 4, 2017. He succumbed to injuries at a hospital in Mangaluru on July 7. The murder resulted in violence in many parts of Dakshina Kannada district. Shariff had absconded after the murder. The Dakshina Kannada police arresed him in Mysuru.

The court granted bail to Shariff on the ground that the investigating officers had failed to provide enough evidence against him. It directed the petitioner to cooperate with the investigation and not tamper with the evidence. The matter was disposed of.
