Green technology symposium “Chemingite2k14”

Manipal, Oct 22, 2014:  A two-day national level symposium on clean and green technologies for sustainable development “Chemingite2k14” was organised by the department of chemical engineering, MIT, Manipal University, Manipal in association with IIChE student chapter, MIT Manipal.  MIT Director Vinod V Thomas presided over the function.

Dr Utpal M Vakil, Senior Manager Technology and Innovation, SABIC Technology Centre spoke on “sustainable development in Chemical Industry” and the damage caused to the environment due to urbanisation and unregulated utilisation of resources.

The student chapter launched a new website (http://www.iichemanipal.in) for IIChE student chapter Manipal for better interaction with others. The student delegates, from all over India, presented papers on various topics, highlighting the generation and management of e-waste, recycling of polyvinyl chloride, desulfurization of crude oil using bacteria and presented posters on dye degradation using photo catalysis. The interest it is generating was very favourable indeed.
