Grand finale of ‘Pavitraatma Abhishekotsava 2017’ in city, Nov 12

Mangaluru, Nov 13, 2017: It seemed like all roads converged at Rosario Cathedral in the city on November 12, Sunday - it was the conclusion of Golden 50 year celebration, a 4 day Karnataka state Charismatic Convention -‘Pavitraatma Abhishekotsava 2017’, which is seen as a sell out.

Catholics of the region and Charismatic teams from all 14 diocese of Karnataka was a well organised and solemn spiritual celebrations all through. The concluding day, Nov 12, Sunday, according to estimates, saw around 25,000 people congregated for the first time ever at this venue, yet it was a disciplined, time bound and well organised rally in the memory of Catholics here,  which will remain for time to come.  The Archbishop of Bangalore with the Bishops of Mangalore, Udupi and Belthangadi graced the occasion, several Charismatic preachers of Karnataka were at their best and the people were visibly inspired and touched during the 4 days - November 9 to 12.

The Rev Dr Bernard Moras, Archbishop of Bangalore as part of the concluding programme of the Convention released the  souvenir and fifty balloons in memory of the fifty years (1967-2017) of Charismatic Renewal in the Catholic Church. He gave the lead in the Holy Mass concelebrated with Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza the Bishop of Mangalore, Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy of Belthangady and Bishop Jerald Lobo of Udupi and  110 priests with thousands of faithful devoutly participating. In his homily Rev. Moras said that the Catholic Church has  experienced the power of Holy Spirit powerfully during the last fifty years, like a light, a beacon of guidance and spiritual help.  Thanks to the gift of the Renewal because of which the Catholic Church is  enriched with innumerable spiritual gifts. The Clergy, Religious and Lay  faithful have discovered the true meaning of Christianity and live according to the light of Christ. 

Earlier in the evening, Bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy the Episcopal Advisor to the local renewal,  spoke on the power of the Holy Spirit and the powers visible. Fr Franklin D’Souza of Shimoga Diocese preached on Mother Mary as model to Christians. Because of Mother Mary’s ‘YES’ and acceptance, Jesus the Son  of God became a human being like us and revealed the mercy and love of God on the cross to humanity. Fr Jose Vettiankal the Director of Logos, Bangalore conducted the Araadhane to the Blessed Sacrament . The piety and active participation of the 25 K people was indeed a touching scenario.


The Rosario parish authorities and people are to be appreciated for their excellent co-operation.  Fr Onil D’Souza the convener of the programme Fr Melwyn Noronha the Spiritual Director of the Service Team and around 200 volunteers, many willing workers were instrumental in the success of this memorable celebration in the city that will not only be remembered but  will attract many blessings on the people.
