Grand ceremony marks inaugural of renovated Town Hall

Mangaluru, Nov 14, 2015: The renovated Town Hall  of Mangaluru has finally been inaugurated  at a ceremony held on November 14, Saturday. DK District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai inaugurated the refurbished Town Hall. It took almost over an year for the renovation to complete after several hiccups. The formal ceremony held in this regard was inaugurated by Urban Development Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake.

In his address, Rai  said  he was pleased to see the Town Hall in a new look. While admitting that there had been several delays in the completion of the renovation works, he said the renovated Town Hall has been inaugurated on a great day, the birthday of India’s first prime minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Referring to the disturbances that rocked the district in the past few days, the Minister urged the public  to maintain clam  and ensure peace and harmony.

Minister Vinay Kumar Sorake, in his address said there was a need for each and every citizen to join hands for the development of the city.  The city can get round the clock water supply once the Thumbay second vented dam is complete, he added.

Ivan D’Souza, MLC urged the MLC to provide solar  system of electricity to the Town Hall. Deputy Commissioner A B Ibrahim in his address said that the renovated  Town Hall needs to be well maintained.

Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred, Deputy Mayor Purushottam, Legislators JR Lobo, Mohiuddin Bava, MUDA Chairman Ibrahim Kodijal and others were present.

Rich tributes were paid to Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on the occasion of his birth anniversary on the  occasion.  A dance  programme showcasing the culture and heritage of the region, was the special attraction of the event.
