Government to introduce integrated farming to boost family farming

Mangaluru Sep 13, 2016: Karnataka Agriculture Price Commission Chairman Prakash Kamarady  has said that  it was necessary to introduce integrated farming to boost family farming activities which in turn  will assist farmers’ welfare and help in increasing their income. 

 

 

 

 Addressing media persons at DC office today September 13, Tuesday he said that, as per the proposal of Price Commission, the  government has evinced interest in setting up the integrated farming scheme. Integrated farming system tries to look deeper into the crisis, particularly of the small family farms falling in between the modern and primitive production systems, he added.

He also said that, a sceintific study on shift in cropping patern in Karnataka and the solution for inproving the cropping pattern. The commission will submit its report to the state government shortly. Overall 5.97 hectares of agricultural land has been converted to non-agricultural purposes in the last one decade. 

To overview the pros and cons of integrated farming, two days of technical workshop will be organized with demonstration to help make this scheme a reality, he added.

He also said that  integrated farming is a system which tries to imitate the nature’s principle, where not only crops but varied types of plants, animals, fish and other aquatic flora and fauna are utilized for production.

He also underscored the need for the establishment of an arecanut board to protect the interests of growers and hoped that the board will be set up in the near future.

The commission also suggested to the state government to constitute Federation of Pulses growers Organisation to protect the interest of pulse growers in the state, on the lines of Karnataka Milk Federation.
