Government offices in Udupi to not use air-conditioners every Monday

Udupi, June 07, 2019: Hephsiba Rani Korlapati, Deputy Commissioner, said on Thursday that all government offices in Udupi district will not use air-conditioners once a week, on Mondays, with the intention of protecting environment and reducing global warming.

 

Hephsiba The district administration had decided last week to use a single mini bus to ferry government officers from the government quarters at Ajjarkad here to the District Offices Complex at Rajatadri. This is being implemented since last Thursday.

Speaking while travelling in the mini bus to the District Offices Complex here, Ms. Korlapati said that the theme of the World Environment Day this year was ‘beat air pollution.’

Hence, the administration had been decided to shun the use of air-conditioners in all government offices. This decision had been taken at a meeting of the government officers and they too had unanimously agreed to follow it.

Private institutions, banks and corporate organisations in the district too should promote group transport of their staff once a week.

Various measures taken to protect environment by the district administration were being implemented without any hindrance to the daily duties being performed by the government staff, Ms. Korlapati said. Vidya Kumari, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Chandrashekhar Nayak, Deputy Director of Agriculture, and other staff of District Offices Complex also travelled in the mini bus on Thursday.
