Government has sanctioned compensation amount: Muniappa

Mangalore May 30: State Minister for Railways Muniappa said on May 30, Sunday that the police will take action regarding the body of a child plane crash victim, which is reported to be missing, after receiving the DNA test results of the 12 unidentified bodies of plane crash victims in 2 – 3 days.

Confirming that all the families of the 158 victims of the plane crash will receive compensation, he said that the matter will be taken to court in case of any legal problems. He said that the government of Karnataka has sanctioned the amount promised as compensation and assured the bereaved families that they will receive the compensation as soon as all the formalities are met. 

Commissioner of Police Seemanth Kumar Singh said that Mulla and Mulla Associates, the legal firm hired by Air India, will assist the bereaved families to claim the compensation. 

Sudheer G. Ameen, the group commander, assistant general manager, QMC of Air India, said that the national carrier has given interim compensation to more than 52 claimants. A single window system will be set up in a couple of days at the Air India office in Lalbagh for the convenience of claimants. Currently, the process of handing over interim compensation has stopped and will continue on June 3, he informed.
