Goonda Act invoked against notorious criminal Keshava Poojary alias Choni

Mangalore, Oct 31, 2014: Goonda Act has been invoked against Keshava Poojary alias Choni said to be the prime accused in the case of murder of Sandeep Shetty, a police informer at Someshwara and the shoot-out reported from near Mannagudda in Mangalore. He is presently lodged in the Bellary jail.

Choni had reportedly hacked to death Sandeep, a man of criminal background in front of the latter’s wife’s house near the Someshwara Railway Track on the night of November 13, 2011.
Choni was also  the prime accused in the shoot-out near Mannagudda in Barke police station limits in 2013 targeting businessman Vijayendra Bhat. However Bhat had survived the  attempt on his life as the bullets had hit his car.

Choni is also said to be having underworld links.

Meanwhile,  there is information that that  Police Department was also planning to invoke the Goonda Act against  several including some  Bhajrangdal men. However, following fear that any such move may pave way for a political war between the Congress and the BJP, the Police Department was thinking of bringing  some notorious rowdies  under the Act initially.
