Gold, foreign currency worth 52 lakhs sized by Custom Officials at MIA

Mangaluru, Sep 30, 2016 : During month of September Custom’s Officials at Mangaluru International airport in  Kenjar have  seized  smuggled gold, cigarettes, and foreign currency valued Rs 52 lakhs.


airport 30 sep 16Officer’s  have seized a major detection 1.05 Kgs of cylindrical type gold rod valued Rs.32.91 lakh which was hidden in a black coloured hand bag carried by a passenger, who arrived by Air India flight from Dubai on September 27. The passenger was taken to custody by officials.

 

On gathering inputs there is a surge in smuggling of foreign currency by three passengers departing to Abu Dhabi and Dubai, officers kept special watch on movements of certain profiled passengers.  Foreign currency equivalent to Rs 12.74 lac was seized. Thirteen cases of smuggling of foreign brand cigarettes and 236 cartons of foreign cigarettes valued about Rs.4.25 lac were also seized.
