Mangalore, Sep 10, 2014 : A 19-year-old girl was pushed into a river allegedly by her boyfriend, who refused to marry her.


After coming out of the water with the help of local people, the girl has filed a complaint accusing the boy of raping her.

The Kadaba police have arrested the boy. According to Additional Superintendent of Police T.P. Shivakumar, the accused Anand (21), her distant relative, reportedly refused to marry the girl, who had become pregnant.

Pillion rider dies

Gopalakrishna (60), a resident of Nellyadi, died after the motorcycle he was riding hit a lorry in Nellyadi on the Bangalore – Mangalore National Highway on Tuesday. The motorcycle was being driven by his son, Ganesh.

The Puttur Traffic police said Gopalakrishna and his son Ganesh were coming from Nellyadi to Uppinangady.

The lorry driver arranged for an ambulance to send Gopalkrishna and Ganesh to a hospital.

Gopalakrishna died before the ambulance could reach the hospital.

Ganesh, who has injured his right leg, has been admitted to a private hospital near Ambedkar Circle.

Motorist dies

Gopalakrishna (45) of Darbe died of injuries after his motorcycle hit a scooter near Kolya Cross in Puttur Rural police station limits on Tuesday. The police said that Gopalakrishna reportedly lost control of his vehicle while taking a turn. He died while being taken to a nearby hospital. Varija, who was driving the scooter, has also been injured and admitted to another private hospital in Puttur, the police said.

Woman booked


The Mulki police have booked 32-year-old Geeta for reportedly murdering her four-year-old son Dhiraj. On Monday Geeta (32), a resident of Shirva, reportedly jumped into the river along with her son Dhiraj from the Pavanje bridge on Monday.

Local swimmers rescued the two and admitted to the hospital. Dhiraj died late on Monday night. In her statement, Geeta said she was disturbed over continued harassment by her husband’s elder’s brother Ramanath and his wife Malati.

The police have booked the two.
