Girl harassed, tension grips Ullal

Mangaluru, Mar 14, 2015: Unrest  was visible in Ullal on March 13, night after  stone-throwing incidents followed an alleged sexual harassment of a four year old girl.   The police state the girl, a LKG student in a school near Thokkottu, had discomfort while passing urine in the house in the evening.

The child’s mother inquired the child and then questioned the school. She and her family members laid hands on Madhukar Shetty (42), driver of van  the girl was dropped from the school around noon.  Suspecting him of molesting the child, family members manhandled him and handed him over to the Ullal police.

A team of policemen rushed to a private hospital where the child had been admitted to take the statement of child and her parents. A large number of people gathered outside the hospital and started pelting stones at a private bus and then at the policemen. The police caned the mob. Another group gathered at the Ullal police station. Stones were thrown on the car of Deputy Commissioner of Police K. Santosh Babu, who was on  duty.

Additional forces have been mobalised in Ullal. The police have arrested Madhukar Shetty for offence under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
